Undetectable viral load? You can’t pass it on!

Did you know that if an HIV-positive guy is on ARV treatment and the virus in his blood is undetectable, he cannot infect someone else?

Undetectable equals untransmittable (U=U).  In other words, treatment prevents transmission! Therefore, treatment is a HUGE priority, and we want you to call us if you need any help gaining access to care.

Thousands of people are still infecting others with HIV because they are unaware that they are HIV-positive.  If those people knew their status and got treatment until the virus was undetectable in their blood, they would no longer be in any danger of infecting anyone else with the virus. Being undetectable doesn’t mean that you are no longer HIV-positive, it just means that you can no longer infect someone else. This is only possible on ARV treatment.  If you stop treatment the virus will become strong again and infection will again be possible. Treatment keeps the virus weak.

Call4Care is a new initiative, you can call, WhatsApp or text Monday to Friday between 9 am and 4 pm to find out where and how you can know your HIV status and start treatment asap, so you too can become undetectable, even if you are HIV-positive. We The Brave still recommends the use of condoms when having sex because there are other sexually transmitted infections (STIs) that can be passed on regardless of your viral load. STIs like gonorrhoea, syphilis and chlamydia are still transmittable.

HIV is only dangerous if it is left untreated.

Whether it’s HIV prevention or treatment, call us at Call4Care and let us help you get the treatment that you need to stay strong and sexy!
